L’ACFA, the francophone communities representative

L’Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta is singular in its commitment towards developing the tools necessary to encourage franco-albertans across the province to build healthier, stronger and vibrant communities. Through numerous consultations l’ACFA aims to establish structures which link each francophone to one another through pride and commitment in being part of a francophone community.

ACFA invites you to purchase the historical map "Jamais je ne l'oublierai". This bilingual map (one side English, one side French) is a reminder of the importance of the contribution of French people to the development of Alberta.

 Message from the President

L’ACFA is officially recognized in Article 102 of the Statutes of Alberta as the representative of the French speaking community in Alberta. L’Association has worked with the community since 1926.

There are approximately 65 000 French speaking individuals extended throughout the province. The francophone community encourages the further development of the following sectors in the next 5 years: Arts and Culture, Sports and Leisure, Education and Training, Economics, Heritage and History, Immigration, Politics and Government Services, Communications and Media. There are close to 200 provincial and regional organisations that contribute widely to the development of the community and attest to its vitality. L’ACFA supports the initiatives of these organisations.

L’ACFA’s decision-making power is held by its members and is exercised during the annual assembly which discusses policies as well as the operation of its activities. The administration of l’ACFA is overseen and directed by the Board of Regional Presidents. The Executive Council applies the policies and implements the programming adopted by the Board of Regional Presidents.

L’ACFA works closely with the FCFA, the national organisation that regroups all of the provincial francophone organisations. Presently, the organisation plays a key role in directly addressing our demands at the federal level. The FCFA was instrumental in the implementation of the Réseau Santé and is currently promoting the Dialogue approach which aims to bring francophone's closer and to create ties with the immigrant, the Francophile and the Anglophone community.

The ACFA web site is a communication tool that connects a large number of people with the common goal of advancing the projects related to community development. I hope it will be of great use.

Vision

During the annual general meeting of October 19th 2002, the members of l’ACFA adopted a vision which was put forward by approximately 60 people from the community. This vision was amended and adopted by the assembly and reads as follows:
